My Decluttering Challenges!

January 28, 2012 ~Carla~

Ok… I know a lot of my blog readers think I’m doing this for them, but trust me, it’s all for me!! :P I really need the help & encouragement, so I’m dragging you all along with me for the ride!! lol!

In my main Challenge post I mentioned that before & after photos were part of this challenge. I love to see the before & after photos! As do most others… but i’ve been thinking, since it’s my challenge, I should be exempt right?! ;) Nahhh… Ok, I’m just kidding! Sort of…. *whistle*

Here are *MY* four challenges for February!

  • Week One: Personal Space Challenge
  • My closet in the bedroom & all my clothes… it is a *MESS*. Make no mistake, I am NOT Martha Stewart. With my hubby working midnights, I can only get in my room during the day once a week. He occupies the room the rest of the time and I just haven’t taken the time to organize/sort/purge through it all. I took my before pics & they aren’t pretty!!

  • Week Two: Family Space Challenge
  • I can’t really think of anything for this except for my Tupperware cupboard. It “runneth” over and drives everyone crazy every time they open it for something!

  • Week Three: Productivity Challenge
  • This will be a 3 part challenge for me:

  1. I want to do all my bread baking on the weekend. So I need to bake 6 loaves every weekend to last throughout the week.
  2. I want to actually wake up before the girls so I can have my coffee, plan my day, read my Bible & devotional in the morning in the peace & quiet. This means setting an alarm. I hate alarms. Big-time.
  3. I want to do one load of laundry every night (if it needs done) and hang *everything* except socks & undies. I tend to get lazy here sometimes & will dry all the girls stuff, etc… I have a bad habit of leaving all my laundry for the weekends, then that consumes my entire weekend. Not fun!

  • Week Four: The “Dreaded” Challenge
  • Without a doubt this will be my sewing & scrapbooking area! This needs organizing & purged something crazy!! lol!

  • And I think that about covers it!! I will be posting little *bonus challenges* throughout the month, so focus on your 4 BIG challenges and stay tuned for a bit more to keep you busy! ;)

What have you decided to do for your decluttering challenges next month?

    Love these decluttering challenges, Carla.

One suggestion…when you are doing your tupperware? Think drawer. Ever since we switched all of our plastic containers from a cabinet to a drawer, we’ve been much happier. If you have one, it’s a godsend!

  2. Kelly says:

Looks great! And extremely helpful to my own post. Since I wasn’t sure what to post. Hope to post tomorrow. I did my plastic last week ;) promised the husband.

  3. I organized all my tuppeware before Christmas. I don’t really have any specific decluttering goals because February will be pretty hectic for us but I do want to get rid of at least 29 things total.

  4. Cindy says:

Great declutter plan, Carla. I will have to sit down to think about a the Productivity and Dreaded Challenges, but have most in my mind with number one being our bedroom closet as well…. lol, I am scared to take the before pictures !

  5. ~Carla~ says:

@ Sharon… Hmm… That just may be possible!! Thanks for the tip!
@ Kelly, glad it helped! :) I just had too many things to choose from! Haha!!
@ Lena, 29 things is a great goal to accomplish!
@ Cindy, once you see mine, you won’t feel so bad! I can promise you that!!! lol!

After reading your challenges Carla, I think I need to be more specific with mine, i.e. bedroom cupboards instead of the whole bedroom. Also I thought the Productivity Challenge had to be clearing out a room. I think mine should be printing all the photos that I want to scrapbook from my Japan trip. I took over 400 photos, so this will take a while:)

    Hi Carla
I am not being quite so structured, I am just taking stuff from everywhere. This morning I am having a quick tidy of the main bedroom, which is already today so just take a minute or so to gather up a few things. But those things have to go in the study. And organising the study is an endless, thankless task!. I will do one hour on it this morning to keep to my schedule but book another hour with it next Sunday and creep up on it unawares!

  8. Allison says:

Were in and on it. Will be tackling this. I love getting rid of stuff!

  9. Hi Carla! I will be posting my decluttering challenge tomorrow on my blog. The first week, my personal space challenge will be my desk (the dining room table)and my bedside table. For the family space challenge, I am going to get through the pile of magazines that currently take up a side table and are an eye sore in the family room. There are also magazines hiding in my ottomans and under a skirted chair! For the productivity challenge, I am going to take all the magazine clippings (recipes and information) and sort and file them for easy access. Creating a more productive environment for my blog. For the dereaded challenge, there are drawers in our guest bedroom that are also filled with…you guessed it…magazine and articles and recipes from magazines that will need to be sorted through and removed to my new filing system. My overall goal is to have a better system for access to all my accumulated recipes and information. I am hoping to get my boys in the action i.e. their bedrooms. I am hoping to rotate bedroom furniture. Matthew does not have a desk in his room. I am hoping to move Michael’s in his room and the guest bedroom furniture and desk to switch with Michael’s. Big job…fingers crossed it all works out! I will attach a link tomorrow with a comment. Good luck to all!

Those dreaded sewing rooms. First room I ‘d love to have done but always last on the list.

Excited for the challenges, your goals look great and I thank you for the encouragement you left me.

  11. Serendipity says:

I was kind of nervous about the whole decluttering part of the challenge because we have to take picutres and I don’t want people to know how slobby I am. :O I then decided oh well, I’m me and people need to deal with me being a clutterbug. :) I have before pictures ready to be posted! :)

  12. ~Carla~ says:

Seriously, I think we ALL have clutter… When I post my bedroom clothes/closet pics I think it’ll loosen everyone up a bit!!! lol! Eek!

  13. Ruth says:

Well, I still have to figure out all my steps, but I completed the personal space one last night…
